INTRODUCTION
K.E College
Mannanam which has laid the foundation for a tradition
of high quality in sports and games in the country is
getting ready to meet the challenges in the field of
physical education in the twenty first centuary. In the
last few decades, Physical Education has gained
tremendous popularity all over the world. Sports and
games have attained unprecedented interest among the
public. It helps in the all round development of human
personality. For centuries progress towards better
performance was very slow but in recent years dramatic
improvements have taken place. Improved techniques
combined with better facilities and equipments and
perhaps a stronger will to excel have resulted in some
astounding performances.
HISTORY
The K.E
College Physical Education Dept. has a fascinating
history. It is one of the top most sports performing
colleges in the country. The department was started in
1964 with Mr. P.J.Thomas as the head of the Department.
He served the Dept. till 1965. Prof. John Lukose joined
the college in 1965 and. served the dept. till 1990. Dr.
T.F. Josekutty joined in 1974. He had an excellent
Sports background. He was a Kerala State and University
player and Kerala University Wrestling Champion and
Kerala university winner in 110M Hurdles. He was an
outstanding organizer in sports in the university and in
the state. He served the Dept. till 2009. Mr. K.A Raju
joined the college in 1991 and was an outstanding Basket
ball player and represented Kerala university. Mr. Joshy
Paul who joined the College on 16.01.1995 is the present
head of the department .
Our
performance in Sports and Games was the most remarkable
during 1990-91. On the basis of achievements of our
college in sports and games Mahatma Gandhi University
selected K.E College Mannanam as the best College in
Sports and Games and awarded the “Malayalam Manorma
Trophy”.
In the year
1991 the Syndicate of the M.G University awarded Roll of
Honour and Citation to K.E College, Mannnam for it’s
outstanding contribution in athletics for the University
Athletic team which won the Prestigious All India Inter
University Athletic Championship held at Kalyan
University in West Bengal. The team manager was Mr. T.F.
Josekutty of this Dept. For the first time in Kerala, in
the Year 1988-89 our College won both the men and women
team championships and both individual championships in
the University Athletic meet
